Biology

Biology studies living systems, being one of the sciences of greater impact and development in modern societies. From the sequentiation of genomes, including the human genom and those of plant species from which our survival as a society depends, to the study of ecosystem sustentability and the conservation of biodiversity, Biology has reached social and cultural implications that are unprecedent in the history of human societies. The Faculty of Sciences of the Univ of Lisbon (FCUL) bears a long tradition of Biology teaching in Portugal and remains the school of reference in this area, attracting the greatest number and the best students in the country who want to enroll in Biology. This success is grounded in a system where all students enter to a two-year basic pluridisciplinary education (the Common Branch), followed by a third year in a specialized branch of their choice, where the diversity of subjects has no parallel in any other school.
