In this context, and considering the pillars of action for research and development at University of Lisbon, the Interdisciplinary Thematic Networks were created in late 2013 covering the following key areas:

| Agro-Food and Forestry (redeAGRO)
Health (redeSAÚDE)
Smart Urban Mobility (redeMOV)
Sea (redeMAR)

The Interdisciplinary Thematic Networks aim to mobilize researchers at University of Lisbon in specific areas of knowledge, aligned with the priorities of Horizon Europe and other funding programs, as well as to increase the attractiveness of the University of Lisbon, as a partner of the best international networks.

Other initiatives include the development of strategic partnerships with organisations and institutions from the public, social and private sectors and the timely creation of Business Advisory Boards within the scope of each Thematic Interdisciplinary Network.
