Second IDEM Unite! Bootcamp held at the University of Lisbon

Between January 30 and February 1, the second IDEM (Inclusion, Diversity and Equity in Mobility) Project Bootcamp took place in Lisbon, at our partner University of Lisbon.

Segundo Bootcamp do IDEM Unite! decorreu na Universidade de Lisboa

This project, which emerged within Unite!, aims to develop a Mobility Model that promotes equal opportunities, recognizing and valuing individual needs and differences. After the Inclusion Training (Grenoble), and the first Bootcamp, dedicated to decision-making processes and self-exclusion in mobility (Barcelona), the Lisbon Bootcamp is the third moment of collaborative work between disadvantaged students, staff and teachers. The focus of these sessions was psychological safety and inclusive environments, as these are vital dimensions for students participating in mobility programs in Higher Education.

The IDEM project was born within Unite! 1.0, and of the 7 partners at the time, only 5 are partners in this project (with Polito as an associate). As such, there were no participants from the 9 universities, but only from 6.

The work carried out made it possible to identify some of the needs of these students in the mobility process, namely in terms of simplifying and centralizing information, personalized support and the ability of institutions to be flexible and accommodate the specific conditions of some students.

It was also possible to identify as a benefit the existence of networks that promote the sharing of experiences. It was also concluded that listening to students and implementing their suggestions is a valuable way for institutions to be more inclusive.

The solutions, ideas and results generated at this Bootcamp will be worked on by the IDEM project team to be integrated into the Mobility Model and Toolkit that IDEM will develop and make public.

This will not only promote the mobility of students from under-represented groups in the context of Unite! but also serve as a possible model for other European consortia involved in promoting more inclusive mobility among their students.
