Objectives

The Master in Physics aims to give advanced training and develop scientific research capacity in Physics. The training offer is organized into three areas of specialization: Astrophysics and Cosmology, Nuclear and Particle Physics, Statistical and Condensed Matter Physics. The course plan includes a significant number of optional units, which allows to build different profiles of training in accordance with the interests of the students. The research leading to the dissertation is a very important part of the training, having a set of professors and researchers available to supervise dissertations on many different topics. The Department of Physics has extensive post-graduate teaching and scientific research experience recognized internationally.

The Masters in Physics are prepared to work in research and development at the frontiers of science and technology, doing a PhD in physics or other related areas. They are also prepared to compete in an increasingly diverse labor market outside academia. The training in Physics is sufficiently versatile and sophisticated, involving the use of computing resources and very diverse equipment, and promoting the development of analysis and design skills, to be a good starting point for many professions. Physicists are increasingly sought after by the economic and financial sector.
