The Doctoral Program in Nursing (PDE) has been running since 2004 at the University of Lisbon (UL). This Program results from a partnership between the UL and the Escola Superior de Enfermagem de Lisboa (ESEL) and is governed by a Protocol between the two institutions. The doctoral course has been accredited by the Higher Education Assessment and Accreditation Agency (A3ES) since December 2011, with new accreditation in 2023.

Objectives 

The fundamental objective of the Doctorate in Nursing is the scientific training of researchers capable of producing new knowledge that contributes to the ontological, epistemological and methodological advancement of the Nursing subject area. The development of leadership skills and scientific production is expected, especially within the scope of the specific contribution of nurses in improving the quality of health care through training people and groups to manage their daily activities. Close cooperation with the areas of social and human sciences and health contributes to broad training that promotes transdisciplinary dialogue.

The objective of the PhD in nursing is to ensure advanced training in an independent disciplinary field, with enough determination I epistemological of its object and with a proper place in the creation of knowledge and practices of specialized intervention.
