The PhD in Geography aims to train specialists in research domains in which IGOT's teaching staff has recognised competence, both nationally and internationally.
The study programme deepens the knowledge in the chosen area of specialisation, develops the ability to use different methodologies and research techniques, stimulates initiative and critical sense and promotes intellectual integrity. Candidates admitted to the 3rd Cycle Degree in Geography should have acquired scientific and technical skills of general scope that integrate different domains of geographical knowledge: physical environment, society and economy.
The PhD programme in Geography grants a PhD degree in the following specialities
Physical Geography;
Human Geography;
Teaching of Geography;
Regional Geography;
Urban and Regional Planning;
Geographical Information Sciences.
The PhD degree in Geography aims to:
Contribute to the training of academics, researchers and technicians capable of producing geographical work of the highest quality;
Provide a common basis for geographic research, understanding the most common theories and methodologies in Geography, but also the need for research specialization;
Create opportunities for students to become involved in a high-level research culture, in close articulation with the activity of the Research Groups of the Centre for Geographical Studies;
Encourage individual initiative and foster critical thinking and intellectual integrity;
Provide opportunities for students to participate in high-level critical discussions in international and national research forums and to publish research results in international and national peer-reviewed scientific journals.
