The PhD in Psychology in the specialty of Clinical Psychology — Thematic Area: Family Psychology and Family Intervention has the following curricular structure: in the 1st year, four compulsory curricular units and one annual compulsory Curricular Unit: 1st semester – Methodology and Optional Thematic Seminar I; 2nd semester – Statistics and Optional Thematic Seminar II; Annual – Thesis Plan Monitoring Seminar. The Optional Thematic Seminars I and II, include optional thematic modules in different areas (e.g., Family Resilience and Vulnerabilities - Satisfaction and Marital Quality; Attachment, Parenting Styles and Family Life Cycle; Parenting in Different Family Configurations; Family and Chronic Disease Conditions ; Family Violence; Research in Family Intervention - Therapeutic Interventions: Therapy and Conjugal Counseling, Narrative Therapies and Evaluation of Family Narratives, Crisis Intervention; Family and Community Mediation; Prevention - Parental, Conjugal Counseling), in order to enable the option, for students, alternative paths adjusted to their specific interests; the 2nd year includes only the Curricular Unit Thesis in the Thematic Area Family Psychology and Family Intervention.

Objectives 

The PhD in Psychology in the specialty of Clinical Psychology — Thematic Area: Family Psychology and Family Intervention is a joint initiative of the Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences of the University of Coimbra and the Faculty of Psychology of the University of Lisbon and aims to promote understanding systematic and critical knowledge and theoretical and clinical skills in the area of psychology and family intervention, and contribute to the development of the design and implementation of quality scientific research, internationally recognized.

The PhD in Psychology in the specialty of Clinical Psychology — Thematic area: Family Psychology and Family Intervention is a facilitating factor for insertion and/or professional growth in the Academic and Research area, namely Universities and Research Centers, as well as development in professional areas within the scope of Family Psychology and Family Intervention, enhancing the articulation between intervention and research.
