The Master responds to the need for training psychologists who, according to the Portuguese Psychologists' Order’s (OPP) specifications for qualification as an educational psychologist, allow them to intervene in educational contexts where the processes of development, education and learning take place. The training focuses on deepening scientific knowledge and developing skills which enable students to enhance the integral development and psychosocial well-being of the diversity of target audiences in all stages of life, from infancy to old age, in the multiplicity of roles it plays. The focus is on an inclusive, multi-level approach, preferably of a promotional and preventive nature, with an emphasis on individual learning, career, health and well-being management processes, but also on intervention at the level of communities and institutional settings, creating conditions to foster positive and safe contexts. Granting of a Master’s Degree requires the conclusion of a cycle of studies with 120 ECTS credits and a duration of four semesters, comprising:
a) Attendance and approval of a specialization course, consisting of an organized set of curricular units, which corresponds to 60 ECTS credits;
b) The elaboration and public discussion of a dissertation of a scientific nature, original and specially carried out for this purpose, which corresponds to 30 ECTS credits and a preparatory curricular internship for professional insertion, object of a final report, which corresponds to 30 ECTS credits. This study cycle is accredited by the Agency for Assessment and Accreditation of Higher Education (A3ES).

The Master’s in Educational Psychology aims to develop scientific skills and ethical attitudes to perform psychological acts in educational contexts. The training is eclectically framed by the knowledge of theoretical models and the mastery and training of technical skills of psychological assessment and intervention, and it focuses on three major areas: learning, career building and management, and health and well-being promotion, from a perspective of equity and lifelong intervention. The training also focuses on acquiring scientific knowledge and skills for psychology evaluation, counseling, guidance, training and consultancy in different educational contexts, with different education agents, through an individual, group and community approach, considering the scientific, social, cultural and technological evolution.
