The cycle of studies leading to a master's degree in Cognitive and Social Psychology corresponds to 120 ECTS and a normal duration of 4 semesters, comprising:
a) a specialization course, consisting of an organized set of curricular units called a master's course, corresponding to 60 ECTS;
b) a dissertation of a scientific nature corresponding to 30 ECTS; and an internship and the corresponding final report (30 ECTS).

Objectives

The main goals of this master are to provide the necessary competences to do research and to intervene in the areas of Cognitive and Social Psychology (CogSocPsy). The cognitive perspective of human behavior stems from the idea that any human competence can only be fully elucidated when we are able to specify the mental schemata underlying how the information is represented in memory, how these representations are implemented, and which are the mental processes that operate on them.

This master provides the necessary knowledge to qualify as an organizational psychologist in accordance with the specifications of the Portuguese Psychologists Association (OPP). This Master’s program prepares students for a variety of interventions in the areas of basic and applied research and in the areas of environment psychology, juridical psychology, consumer behavior and behavioral economics.

Career prospects
The master's degree in cognitive and social psychology is fundamental for the training of future psychologists in the specialization area of cognition, social cognition and social psychology. allowing students access to the profession, and their possible future certification as specialist psychologists of EuroPsy (European standard of education and professional training in psychology established by the European Federation of Associations of Psychologists). In addition, this master's degree is an opportunity to improve or develop scientific knowledge and skills for a) people with degrees in areas related to psychology and who do not intend to be psychologists, such as other social sciences (e.g., Economics) and cognitive sciences; b) people in areas of professional activity where socio-cognitive psychology plays a predominant role (e.g., marketing, environment); This master's degree also has a strong relationship with society, especially through internships in areas such as forensic psychology, environmental psychology, consumer psychology and behavioral economics.
