The Degree focuses on knowledge of Asian societies and cultures, past and present, and systems of international and intercultural relations between Asia and the rest of the world. It integrates the disciplinary traditions of oriental studies and their geographical or regional variants, such as Sinology, Japonology, Indianology, or Islamology, among others.
The degree in Asian Studies FLUL works already in the third year in a row,and always filled all vacancies with input ratings well above the average of the 1st cycle courses taught in this OU.With the original project was intended to fill a gap in graduate training in Portugal preparing students for contact with the newly created opportunities in Asia.So we insisted on training both in regard to language preparation as the notions of history, geography, anthropology of religion and contemporary politics.This application for accreditation is not intended to alter any of these objectives. We aim, rather, to deepen them through the Consortium established between UCP and UL,which join the Confucius Institute,based in the RUL,and the Scientific and Cultural Centre of Macao, under the Ministry Education,Higher Education and Culture. Thereby achieving the necessary critical mass to produce a program of excellence in this area,which will have the necessary continuity in the post-graduate training.
